Wade on Birmingham

Semper f.u.

The good folks at Drink at Work discovered an amusing take on Birmingham culture. Comedian Christian Finnegan wrote about his bizarre encounter with a surly drunken Marine during his recent set at the Comedy Club at the Stardome in Hoover.

the point is, I was hardly going out of my way to provoke the Birmingham crowd. Still, I guess there must have been something I said to inspire Semper Fi’s rage. The disruption started when I was tackling an extremely controversial subject: the board game Monopoly. But I imagine his anger probably started about five minutes earlier when I did a very short, very tame bit about America being like a high school bully.

Good thing Finnegan didn’t rip on Skynyrd, or else he might have really incited a riot.

Maybe the guy was just mad because the “America is a high school bully” bit has done by about a million comedians (France is the band… person, right? Switzerland’s the nerd? And don’t get me started on Italy. Hubba hubba! If he hadn’t knocked up Sweden, I would *totally* do him).
