The Big Brackets for Bytes Bonanza
By Wade Kwon
You should be working. You should be studying. You should be changing the baby.
You should be doing anything except thinking about March Madness.
Not gonna happen.
Three teams from Alabama are in. After Alabama snuck in, can it make it past the first round? Can UAB upset Kentucky again? Wait, South Alabama, really?
How to enter
Enter the Big Brackets for Bytes Bonanza. Pick the winners in the men’s NCAA Tournament and challenge your coworkers, buddies and barmates. We’ve made it easy for ya.
- Visit ESPN to fill out your brackets.
- You’ll need to create a free account for yourself.
- The group password is VULCAN.
- Pick your teams and lock in your custom bracket before the tourney tipoff at 11 a.m. Thursday.
- Repeat up to four more times.
That’s it.
Winner takes all
Oh, wait. Forgot to mention the prizes. If you win the ESPN thing, you get $10,000 or a sweet $5,000 TV.
If you win the Big Brackets for Bytes Bonanza at Wade on Birmingham, you win a pen.

OK, a really cool pen. A James Bond pen. With a USB drive that holds a quarter gigabyte (256 MB).

Which you can use to write “I am the king of brackets!” over and over. And store pictures of yourself cutting down the nets and MP3s of your team’s fight songs. Not very James Bond, but did 007 ever win the MI6 hoops pool? We didn’t think so.
So enter today. We’ll post results daily. Questions: contests (at) wadeonbirmingham.com.
And watch your teams play online for free, but sign up quickly — slots are almost gone.
Good luck, hoops hopefuls. And feel free to trash-talk the teams and other players below in the comments section.

My bracket picks are up. And based on previous years’ office pools, I will own the middle of the pack, bitches.

St. Pat’s results: Mr. Pigott and Ms. Abrams are tied for first. I still have a lock on dead last. Ouch.
