Wednesday Night Lights: All in

By

Hell week is here.

After their national championship hopes were dashed after losing to Tuscaloosa County, the Hoover Bucs are in for some three-or-four-a-days and some black-and-blue-a-days.

It’s back to basics on “Two-a-Days” as the guys dig in.

two-a-days

Alex, left, and Cory deal with tough practices and soft teammates.

Highlights from episode 4 of the MTV reality series …

Quarterback and change: Coach Propst ain’t happy, and when Coach ain’t happy, ain’t nobody happy. At least Cornelius and Bryan are recognized for playing well. Even Max gets a backhanded compliment (“You played hard. I don’t think you played good, but you played hard.”). That’s nothing compared to Ross, the quarterback who sustained a concussion (two-a-daze!) and could be out for four weeks. Will Cornelius take over as the play caller?

They go together like …: football players and cheerleaders. Repete is out on a double date with his girl Megan. But something feels wrong, something … unnatural. If people shoot them dirty looks, it’s because she’s … a Shades Valley student. (Shout out to my alma mater: What up, my Mountiez?!) Hey, Alabama only recently made it legal for couples of different schools to marry, but still, some things aren’t right. He should date within his own school. Period.

With a like, like here: At the (cough, staged, cough) cheerleader convo, Kristin, Blair and Jessica gab over boys and Homecoming Dance and the loss and boys. Meanwhile, Alex plots his romantic comeback. It works! Kristin finds roses in her car and says she’d go with him if asked. That seemed easy enough, almost too-o-o-o easy.

Practice makes defect: Poor Max. First Coach Propst is singling him out, now Coach Pruitt, who calls him a “dumbass.” Fortunately, Max’s stepdad Jim is willing to do whatever it takes for him to play, even if it means … a romantic steakhouse dinner with Pruitt?! And in a Kellie Pickler-meets-calamari moment, Pruitt stares questioningly at Jim’s asparagus. And no, that’s not a metaphor.

The (other) Hills: Time for the game against hated the Vestavia Hills Rebels. (Don’t be fooled by all those Confederate flags. Hoover had to travel all of 6 miles to another neighboring cushy suburb.) Cornelius leads the way, while the defense crushes Vestavia. It’s barely a game, but a win’s a win, and the coaches take them all out afterwards for asparagus! Yay, team! The final … 24-6.

“Two-a-Days” airs at 9:30 p.m. Wednesdays on MTV, repeating throughout the week and available for free online.

Next episode: All about Homecoming.

There was an article in the Crimson and White a couple of weeks ago on Kristin and Goose who are freshmen now at UA. Discussed the time they had in 2AD.. not much new.

Somehow I still don’t think they’re hanging out together.

I was so embarassed when they got to Vestavia. I didn’t remember that they were the Rebels. It was worse than the asparagus.
