Gov. Bob Riley and Lt. Gov. Lucy Baxley are squaring off in the sole gubernatorial debate tonight in Montgomery, just eight days from Election Day, Nov. 7.

As part of our ongoing Vote 2006 coverage, Wade on Birmingham will offer a live blog of tonight’s gubernatorial debate between Republican incumbent Bob Riley and Democratic challenger Lt. Gov. Lucy Baxley.
So while you’re watching something more entertaining, say “Prison Break,” we’ll be bringing you the blow-by-PAC-funded-blow action. (Now if only someone would live-blog the adventures of T-Bag and company for us …)
Will Bob somehow blow a 25 percentage point lead? Will Lucy finally declare her candidacy for governor? Will T-Bag escape with the $5 million? (Sorry, still focused on “Prison Break.”)
And what questions do you have for the two candidates?
(Spoiler alert: Jeff at Politics in Alabama has already named the winner.)
Join us at 7 tonight for all the political haymaking fun. It airs live on Alabama Public Television stations statewide (WBIQ-10 in Birmingham), with reruns at 9 tonight and 2 p.m. Sunday.

Welcome to the second half of “The Amazing Race.” Karlyn Harris and Lyn Turk, best friends from Birmingham, stuck it out (more or less) with two other teams as they headed for Africa. It’s sink or swim time for the 12 contestants as they snipe and snarl their way to the mat.
Plus, the controversial missing Roadblock.

Call it offline networking, version 2.0.
Nearly 30 representatives from 18 area young professional groups met Monday night at a Homewood restaurant to drink, to discuss, to deliberate. This Civic Organization Roundtable has been in the works for some time, a way to unite and coordinate Birmingham’s bloc of up-and-comers.
It’s the first step of many in the improving upon the slow, steady progress for our hometown. Feel free to join in at any time.

The “Back Pack” continued its alliance as contestants moved from the Far East to the Mideast in tonight’s installment of “The Amazing Race.” Team Birmingham — single moms Karlyn Harris and Lyn Turk — stuck it out with the Team Kentucky and the Cho bros.
Racers flew to Kuwait City to brave heights, heat, hauls and humps. Would an old twist create a new leaderboard?
