Wednesday Night Lights: The end zone
By Wade KwonIn an MTV first, the last episode of “Two-a-Days” screened online Wednesday night before its Oct. 18 broadcast. And the post-post-season Hoover Bucs are looking forward to baseball and college ball.
Finally, some answers for fans’ burning questions: Who earns a football scholarship? Who ends up playing baseball? And which couples stay together? (Hint: not Alex and Goose.)
It’s zero-a-days for part two of the season finale. [recap of part one]
That championship season: The 2005 Hoover Buccaneer
football team and cheerleaders.
Highlights from episode 9 of the MTV reality series …
From left, Brittany, Kristin, Blair and Goose take a roadtrip to Tuscaloosa.
Campus connection: Repete talks with a college recruiter who’s interested in his playing skills. Goose, Kristin, Blair and Brittany have a girls’ day out to visit the University of Alabama, including Bryant-Denny Stadium. (Psst, Goose, she’s just not that into you. And by she, we mean every single girl.)
And Alex frets about his shot at college. With a shoulder injury, his chances at a football or baseball scholarship are looking slim. Bummer: no college, no senior baseball season.
Alex, one last time, for the ladies.
Pitch session: After Alex’s MRI, the news ain’t great. They can fix the shoulder, but it’ll cost him the playing season. And that puts his baseball scholarship offers at risk. The doctor, by the way, mentions “clavicle” about 400 times. Laguna Beach, this ain’t.
Cindy, left, teases Max’s girlfriend Anna about getting the ring.
Jim gives Anna a great big 20-minute hug, just because.
Merry Max-mas: Max’s family celebrates Christmas with a freshly cut tree, a carol and weird togetherness, including Max’s girlfriend Anna. Jim, Max’s stepdad, creeps out Max on the couch, then double-teams Anna in the kitchen with the help of Max’s mom, Cindy. We need a shower. And maybe a lobotomy.
Cindy later tells Jim he’s the best thing to happen to Max, then asks if he’s too hard on him. Jim says, “(Max) doesn’t respond real well if you’re loving, supportive and understanding.” Let the Yuletide beatings commence!
Swingers: Alex, Max and Ross take time for indoor batting practice. And Ross jokingly calls Alex a “pedophile” for dating freshman Danielle. Alex says he’s only 17. And that he’s going to break up with her by fax during Christmas break.
Banquet of champions: The team celebrates one last time at swanky Ross Bridge Resort, as the seniors pick up their fourth rings. Talk about hardware.
Where are they now?
“Two-a-Days” airs at 9:30 p.m. Wednesdays on MTV, repeating throughout the week and available for free online.
Next season: Hoover looks for a national championship. Ross the quarterback returns for his senior year.
