Dixie divas vie for ‘Top Model’
By Wade Kwon
A gray-haired dude from Hoover sings his way to “Idol” stardom. Two single moms from Birmingham race around the world to place third.
That was 2006.
Reality TV for 2007 has more fierce faces on the way. Not one but two state residents will compete on the eighth edition of “America’s Next Top Model.” The two women are the first in show history to hail from Alabama.

Dionne, a 20-year-old college student from Montgomery, and Samantha, a 19-year-old sales associate from Birmingham suburb Pinson, will compete against 11 other women for a $100,000 modeling contract. (Last names were not made available.)

In a preview video, Dionne says, “I never really had girlfriends to hang out with, because the expression on my face, they always think I’m stuck up, but I’m not.”

Samantha says, “I always wanted to be a model. I would cut out pictures of really pretty poses and girls who are gorgeous.”
The CW reality competition, hosted by Tyra Banks, puts contestants through fashion challenges including photo and commercial shoots. Judges eliminate one contender each week.
The winner will be announced on the season finale in May.
The two-hour season premiere airs at 7 p.m. Feb. 28 on CW 21; afterwards, the show will air at 7 p.m. Wednesdays.
