Then and now

D&D, dungeons and dollars: The Dick and Don show has moved to federal prison. After netting about seven years each and hundreds of thousands of dollars in fines, HealthSouth founder Richard Scrushy and former governor Don Siegelman are in custody, awaiting appeal.

Not much left to say, except see you in 2014.

Stages of solvency?: City Stages 2007 pulled in crowds despite a weak lineup, but did it pull in the dollars? We won’t know for weeks, but early reports indicate that ticket sales fell slightly short of goals.

Great Expo-tations: Ugh, bad teaser, good event. The YP Expo brought in 550 visitors to downtown’s newly renovated Innovation Depot to learn more about the various nonprofit organizations in town. For more ways to get involved, check out YPNow.org, a hub of volunteer groups with events and recruitment throughout the year.

Belles of the brawl: We couldn’t tell you who our state senator is, but we do who the toughest SOBs are in the statehouse. That’s Stewards of Bipartisanship, by the way. Let us not forget that the legislative session ended not with a whimper but a mighty, flailing bang, as Sen. Charles Bishop punched Sen. Lowell Barron on the closing day, captured on video by Alabama Public Television.

May we suggest during the next pledge drive they the station air this clip rather than the umpteenth showing of Suze Orman and Animusic?
