I agree with you Wade completely. We get to see several types of acts appear in the area and country usually does the best.

Many years ago Garth Brooks was in town for 2 or 3 days and filled both local decks to their capacity. No act has done that since but country comes closer than anyone else.

I'll give it maybe another 2 years before the Throw Down generates the crowd like the CB.

@keiser41: I'm betting that the Throw-Down has room to grow, seeing as country usually does well here.

@jenny80: Bayfest hasn't announced its lineup yet, but it'll be interesting to see who they land.

in my honest opinion , the city stages line up this year isnt good at all . there isnt 1 band or act that i would go and see . usually they have some really good bands , but this year the line up is really disappointing . lynam is a good local favorite , but who relly wants to see the flaming lips ? vasilene hahaha . to think they hired the same firm that does the bonnaroo festival to get this line up is a waste . check out mobiles bay fest line up . its a whole lot better than city stages line up . i have always been a fan of city stages , but this year i think i will save my money and go to mobile in october .

I believe this event would have done much better if it had been advertised on a broad scale and with enough time for people to know it was coming. I only knew of this event by searching for Birmingham events in Google. Not once did I or any of my employees here or see an ad for the event.

I know it followed on the skirt tales of the Crawfish Boil but the music choices where different. While the CB tends to lean towards Rock, Rap R&B and Alternative the Downtown Throw-down was 5 well known country names (no locals).

This gave something for people that might not enjoy the CB to visit and don’t want to go to the upcoming CS. True enough there weren’t tons of smelly freshwater bugs to eat but the price was right.

From our business point of view the crowd was not as large as the CB but this event is new and they need to advertise more.
