First look: Leonardo da Vinci at the Birmingham Museum of Art
By Wade KwonThe Birmingham Museum of Art opens its top-tier exhibit, “Leonardo da Vinci: Drawings from the Biblioteca Reale in Turin,” today. These 11 drawings represent a master at work and will be the first time they’ve traveled as a group outside of Italy.
The museum held a media preview on Friday. Here’s a sneak peek …
Museum director Gail Andrews introduces us to the exhibit.
Lighting is kept low to protect the sketches. Your eyes will have a
chance to adjust as you read the intro text just inside the entrance
Be sure to use the loaner magnifying glasses provided
to see da Vinci’s deliberate and delicate strokes.
Da Vinci, a leftie, drew right to left to avoid smudging the ink.
The free exhibit runs through Nov. 9.
