Vote 2008: Last chance to register, plus sample ballots
By Wade KwonIf you plan on voting, and you’re not yet registered, hurry! You have until Friday to register. Where?
- any branch of the Jefferson County Libraries;
- any courthouse.
For more info, visit the Alabama secretary of state site.
Also, you can check out sample ballots (PDF) for Jefferson and Shelby Counties. Warning: The Jefferson County sample ballot has 162 pages, reflecting the various districts and races. Apparently, they included “Ralph Nadar” on the list of presidential nominees — especially amusing since it’s spelled Ralph Nader.
And for those wondering who won the mayoral runoffs in Brighton, Calera, Fairfield, Gardendale, Graysville Montevallo, Pelham and Trafford … wonder no more: Here are the complete results.
It’s two weeks until Election Day!

Actually, BPL branches stopped taking voter reg forms on the 20th. Branches may still have the forms for people to fill out, but BPL isn’t sending any more in. Just a heads up. Not sure about other municipal libraries though.

Thanks — that’s good to know.
That would’ve made a better headline: “Libraries Deny Voting Rights to Thousands.”

That same thing happened to me when I tried to register at the library before the primary.
