Magic City Mission

[This page updated Nov. 5.]

Follow along for updates from Biloxi and New Orleans on our special Magic City Mission log on Wade on Birmingham.

Let me tell you about one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. It began with a trip to New Orleans in November 2006 …

mcmlogo2.gifI spent a week volunteering with Hands on New Orleans, a nonprofit group that’s part of the Hands on Network. Helping the good people of New Orleans rebuild after Hurricane Katrina was deeply moving, not to mention fun and memorable. I took our four-person team to New Orleans in April 2007 for another weeklong mission trip.

If you haven’t been to the Gulf Coast recently, they still need our help. I’m going back this fall, and I want you to join me.

I’m working with Hands on Birmingham to take a group of 50 volunteers from Birmingham to work Nov. 4-11. We’ll form two teams, one for Hands on Gulf Coast (Biloxi, Miss.) and one for Hands on New Orleans.

If you can take the time from your busy schedule, I promise you it’ll be a worthwhile journey. Please join us.

Our thanks also to Birmingham-Southern College, Birmingham Weekly, Catalyst, City Action Partnership, John’s City Diner, Left in Alabama, TechBirmingham, The Terminal and YPNow.org for their help.
