Third director in film festival’s 10-year history

Chloe Collins - Sidewalk Moving Picture Festival - Executive Director

In a Wade on Birmingham exclusive, Sidewalk Moving Picture Festival announced the hiring of new executive director, Chloe Collins (pictured at left). She succeeds Catherine Pfitzer, who was let go in February.

The board had originally planned on having someone in place by April 1, but made the offer to Collins on Monday. Hundreds of applicants applied for the position.

In a media release, board president Alan Hunter described Collins as “a self-starter and leader who can effectively interface with the corporate and film communities while keeping the office running smoothly.”

Collins’ previous jobs include director of corporate communications for Enjoy the City, a national nonprofit fund-raising coupon book organization; senior account executive with Birmingham marketing firm WilbanksElam; and director of marketing and public relations for the Birmingham Music Cooperative, a nonprofit agency handling three music organizations.

The Sidewalk board previously offered the executive director position to Melissa Kendrick, owner of downtown retail store Sojourns and newly hired part-time development director for the annual film festival. She says she turned down the offer for “personal reasons” but is “still helping with fund development.”

Alabama Moving Image Association Hires New Executive Director
Chloe Collins to Lead Sidewalk Film Festival into 11th Year

BIRMINGHAM, AL – After a three-month search and hundreds of qualified applicants, the Alabama Moving Image Association (AMIA) has announced today that they have hired Chloe Collins, a seasoned local public relations and marketing practitioner, non-profit administrator and event manager, as its new Executive Director.

AMIA, which produces the Sidewalk Moving Picture Festival, looks forward to what Collins’ expertise will bring to the upcoming festival, which will be held September 25-27 in Birmingham’s historic Theatre District

“It was important for the AMIA board to find an Executive Director with a variety of skill sets, because there are so many elements to Sidewalk that demand oversight and direction,” says Alan Hunter, AMIA Board President. “We wanted a strong organizer with excellent management skills who knows the community, knows fundraising and understands the extraordinary demands of a non-profit in this challenging economic environment.”

Collins brings a wealth of experience with a special focus on non-profit public relations and management to AMIA. She was most recently Director of Corporate Communications for Enjoy the City, a leader in non-profit fundraising. Prior to joining Enjoy the City, she served as Senior Account Executive with WilbanksElam, where she specialized in non-profit account management, strategic planning, community relations, event development and sponsorship management.

Collins’ previous experience also includes Director of Marketing and Public Relations for The Birmingham Music Cooperative, Assistant to the Director for The Kiwanis Club of Birmingham and Event Services Manager for the Harbert Center. She is a 2000 graduate of Auburn University, from which she holds her Bachelor of Arts in Communication. She and her husband, Nathan have one child, daughter Clea Clementine.

“Our Executive Director search invited local, regional and national applicants to ensure the best possible fit for Sidewalk, and I feel we’ve found that in hiring Chloe,” says Hunter. “She’s a self-starter and leader who can effectively interface with the corporate and film communities while keeping the office running smoothly. We look forward to getting her started on Sidewalk 11, decade two.”
